32 years later and “Fuck Tha Police” is the modern protest anthem.
Back in 1988 N.W.A released Straight Outta Compton. The 13-track album contained one of the most powerful tracks in hip-hop history, “Fuck Tha Police.” The track was created after the members were forced by police to lay face down in the streets with gins to their heads. Ice Cube starts his verse by saying,
“Fuck the police comin’ straight from the underground!
A young nigga got it bad ‘cause I’m brown
And not the other color, so police think
They have the authority to kill a minority
Fuck that shit ‘cause I ain’t the one
For a punk motherfucker with a badge and a gun
To be beating on and thrown in jail”
More than 30 years later and this statement still holds true.
George Floyd’s death was the straw the broke the camels back. The black community has had enough with the Police and they are getting overwhelming support from people outside of their community. Protests are happening nation wide against police brutality and racism demanding to defund the police.
“Fuck Tha Police” still holds power and is still the anthem.
